Musical Events : Detweiler Meetinghouse Sponsors Three Musical Events Each Year |

June 6, 2010, 2:00-4:30 p.m.. The Harmonia Sacra is a hymnbook first published in 1832 by Joseph Funk (1778-1862) of Mountain Valley near Harrisonburg, Virginia. It is the the oldest shaped note hymnbook in continuous use. It was designed for use in singing schools in the 19th century. The Detweiler singing is chaired by J. Laurence Martin, though others will be given opportunity to lead. The Menno Singers Alumni, led by Abner Martin, will provide assistance. Books using modern musical notation are provided. A freewill offering in support of Meetinghouse operations will be held. Everyone welcome. |

August 8, 2010, 7:00-8:30 p.m. Our newest annual singing event will utilize the two books that supplement Hymnal: a Worship Book. They feature newer hymns, The Sing the Journey / Sing the Story event is chaired Mark Diller Harder, co-pastor at the St. Jacobs Mennoniti Church. Some books will be available; bring your own copies if possible . A freewill offering in support of Meetinghouse operations will be held. Everyone welcome. |

October 17, 2010, 3:00-4:15 p.m. This will be the seventh annual gospel music hymnsing based on Life Songs II, a hymnbook published by the Mennonite Church and edited by Ontario Mennonite leader, S. F. Coffman. These hymns of "lighter music" for Sunday school use include many classic gospel songs and old favorites. The Gospel Vespers are led by Bob Shantz, former music teacher at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate. Some books will be available; bring your own copies if possible . A freewill offering in support of Meetinghouse operations will be held. Everyone welcome. |
